Chania Market – Agora

“Agora” is the heart of Chania city…

The Municipal Market of Chania is the large building of 4000 square meters in a surrounding area of 17.200 square meters.
It is an original building that, apart from a business activity center, also provides a concrete image of the ancient Greek marketplace.

The Municipal Market of Chania is commonly known as the “Agora”, is located in the center of Old Town where the main fortifications once stood. It was opened by Eleftherios Venizelos in 1913 and is considered one of the most impressive covered markets in the Balkans. In 1980, the Municipal Market of Chania was declared a protected monument by the Ministry of Culture.

The market offers many shops, including butchers’, fishmongers, fresh vegetables and frutis, souveniers, local products and other general stores.
